Acknowledgment

I wish to acknowledge my indebtedness to Professor E. H. Whinfield, whose book, the standard translation of the Gulshan i Rāz, has been of the greatest assistance to me in compiling this little volume. I am grateful to Dr. R. A. Nicholson for kind permission to quote from his works on Sūfiism, and to Captain L. Cranmer-Byng I offer my best thanks for his kind interest in my work, and for many helpful hints and suggestions.
